Mead is one of the world’s oldest fermented beverages, made by fermenting honey with water and yeast. Often called “honey wine,” mead can range from dry to sweet and may include fruits, spices, herbs, or other natural ingredients to create unique flavor profiles.
At White Shed Meadery, we focus on approachable, fruit-forward meads crafted with real honey and real fruit. Our goal is to create mead that feels welcoming whether you’re trying it for the first time or already love the world of craft beverages.
Is Mead Sweet?
Not always! Mead can be:
- Dry and crisp
- Light and refreshing
- Fruity and balanced
- Rich and dessert-like
Many people are surprised by how versatile mead can be. Some styles resemble wine, while others may remind you of cider, sangria, or even cocktails depending on the ingredients and sweetness level.
What Is Melomel?
Melomel is a style of mead made with fruit. Since many of our meads highlight fruit-forward flavors, several of our creations fall into this category. Using real fruit allows us to create vibrant flavors inspired by the seasons, local ingredients, and meaningful moments shared with friends and family.
How Should Mead Be Served?
Mead can be enjoyed:
- Chilled
- Over ice
- Paired with food
- Shared around a fire
- Mixed into creative cocktails, or should we call it “meadtails”?
There’s no wrong way to enjoy it. We believe mead is made for connection, conversation, and slowing down long enough to enjoy the moment.
A Modern Take on an Ancient Drink
Mead has been enjoyed across cultures for thousands of years, from ancient China to Viking celebrations and traditions throughout Europe. While it carries a rich history, today’s craft mead scene continues to evolve with fresh ingredients, creative flavor combinations, and modern approaches to fermentation.
At White Shed Meadery, we love bringing our own small-batch approach to this timeless drink while staying rooted in community, creativity, and quality ingredients.
